Explore one of the largest collections of scientific instruments in North America: the Séminaire de Québec’s physics cabinet.

As true wonders to discover, these curious objects are invaluable! They tell the story of how science was taught more than two centuries ago, but above all, they are proof that science has always been full of surprises!

Through the eyes of Auguste-Maurice Tessier, a student at the Séminaire de Québec in the 19th century, the showcase exhibition Strange Objects, Amazing Science! invites you to explore scientific phenomena and demonstrations in physical sciences as if you were in 1889.

Following the story told in comic strip form by illustrator Paul Bordeleau, visitors are invited to answer the questions asked by Auguste, to make hypotheses, to exchange theories with each other, and even to manipulate interactive models.

This showcase exhibition, presented in collaboration with the Musée de la civilisation’s Foundation, gives an idea of the content that could be explored in the future House of Science.

This invitation to cultivate our own curiosity is an opportunity to better understand physical phenomena in a playful way and to raise awareness of the diversity of scientific disciplines that allow us to understand our world and animate our capacity for wonder.
