Travelling exhibition Love Me Gender
An exhibition for her, him, they and all of us
Encouraging a more inclusive society, this exhibition explores the different experiences of gender identity.
Take your visitors on a journey into the heart of the human experience in all its diversity, by leading them into an exploration of the multiple realities of gender identity. See how gender identity in Québec and elsewhere has changed over time and evolved across cultures. The exhibition’s content and collections provide a rich, educational and attractive visitor experience. The theme is treated with a broad and comprehensive approach, to resonate with both newbies and the well-versed. Different types of objects are on display, including works of art, archives, historical and anthropological objects and naturalized specimens. Ten videos feature first-person accounts to make the subject all the more accessible to all.
This exhibition will allow you to join in this important discussion and help demystify and celebrate the many facets of gender identity.
The Musée is available to work with you to tailor the exhibition with content that reflects your reality and environment, as well as to add objects from your collections or community. The Musée can provide design elements, certain content and even a team to set up and dismantle the exhibition.

Zone 1: Gender, seen in blue and pink
Right from the start of the exhibition, this first zone raises visitors’ awareness that all human beings have a sex, gender identity and gender expression.
Zone 2: Gender, seen through the lens of biology
We see from a biological perspective how sexual variations are common to both humans and animals.
Zone 3: Gender identities, societies and eras
The exhibition then uses an anthropological perspective to show how the number of gender identities vary from one society to another.
Zone 4: Somewhere between the norm and marginality, there are people
Having scientifically shown non-binary sexes and gender identities exist, the exhibition now turns to the notion of hetero-cis–normativity and the transitions trans individuals may experience.
Zone 5: Trans violence, struggles and rights
This zone illustrates how marginalization is caused through various forms of violence. From a historical perspective, we see how experiences of violence have led to large-scale social struggles and, eventually, to major legislative and social changes for LGBTQIA2S+ communities, particularly for trans people.
Zone 6: Perceiving beauty and resilience
Now looking beyond the violence and the struggles, this zone features the beauty, resilience and diversity of trans people with admiration and an open, caring approach. The queer artists featured throughout the exhibition are well represented here.
Zone 7: Living together
The sum of the previous zones leads visitors to better understand the concepts and realities of gender identity. Once demystified, these notions reflect the importance of respect and living together.

“Love Me Gender was really relevant and thorough. I’m an undergrad in sexology, and so noticed several key concepts taught in class, such as Two-Spiritedness, intersexuality and the different realities of trans and non-binary people. I also appreciated the nod to the LGBTQIA2S+ community’s struggles for recognition and rights. A great exhibition for all ages!”
“I stayed much longer than I was expecting in Love Me Gender. It was fantastic, compassionate and touching. Bravo.”
“I highly recommend this exhibition. It debunks many false beliefs and gives the community a voice. And it clarifies lots of terms. I was quite moved!”
