Venenum: A Poisonous World

Signature visuelle de l'exposition Venenum, un monde empoisonné : représentation d'un serpent sur fond vert.

Poisons are highly ambiguous things. Across history and cultures, they crop up everywhere. Toxic, even deadly, they sometimes have unsuspected medicinal benefits.

This unusual exhibition features 60 live specimens. Among these dangerous creatures, you’ll find jellyfish, a black widow and a Goliath bird-eater.

Venenum includes an immersive digital experience that traces the history of poisons from ancient times to the present day. The contemporary question of humans’ toxic contamination of nature is also addressed at the end of the visit.

This exhibition was designed and produced by the Musée des Confluences in Lyon and adapted by the Musée de la civilisation.

The virtual tour is realised in collaboration with Gaspésie Virtuelle.
