Visit the first French permanent settlement in America, Place-Royale, and find out about its history with a guide.

This guided tour explores many themes: the French settlement (Champlain), the fur trade, the historical and geographical history of the site (evolution of the Saint-Lawrence shores, sea port, docks), the architecture (stone houses, vaulted cellars, fire protection) and the commercial aspect of Place-Royale (merchants, international commerce).

The Indigenous presence, the conflicts between French and English people on the territory and the city’s defence system (Royal Battery) as well as the importance of archaeology and the traces left by previous occupants are also presented.
