Nowadays, the Mus\u00e9e de la civilisation uses it to organize cultural activities, mainly because of its phenomenal acoustics! <\/p>\n<p>Its fantastic decor makes for many wonderful private functions. The old building was consumed by a fire in early 1888.<\/p>\n<p>Its reconstruction was overseen by Joseph-Ferdinand Peachy (1830-1903), a widely renowned architect in Qu\u00e9bec during the 19th century. He has worked on many buildings throughout the Old Qu\u00e9bec. The walls, ceilings and columns are painted over metallic sheets using a trompe l\u2019oeil technique, imitating natural materials such as wood or marble for an astounding finish. Not only did it match the style of that time, but it also protects the Chapelle against fires. <\/p>\n<p>However, not everything in the Chapelle is fake. Ashes, bone fragments or locks of hair, the relics are testimonies of Saints who have passed.<\/p>\n<p>Around 600 of them were brought from Europe by Mgr Joseph-Calixte Marquis (1821-1904), who had studied at the S\u00e9minaire and was a great collector. Here are some of these treasures:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Stained glass crafted by Wallace J. Fischer, an English master stained glass artist, from the Bernard Leonard workshop. He created many elements of this painted decoration.<\/li>\n<li>A Casavant organ from 1930. <\/li>\n<li>An identical replica of the \u201corgue Richard\u201d (Richard organ), made in Paris in 1753 for the Notre-Dame-de-Qu\u00e9bec Cathedral-Basilica. The original was destroyed in 1759 during the Conquest.<\/li>\n<li>The harpsichord HL Opus 7, identical replica to the clavecin Fran\u00e7ois Blanchet (harpsichord), 1733, from the Ch\u00e2teau de Thoiry, France. <\/li>\n<li>Large marouflaged canvas, including one from Vincenzo Pasqualoni (1820-1880)<\/li>\n<li>Twelve reliquary busts of apostles made by Louis Jobin, sacred art sculptor.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"rounded alignnone size-full wp-image-19650\" src=\"https:\/\/mcq.org\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/12\/chapelle-gros-plan-vitrail.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1200\" height=\"675\" \/><\/p>\n        <\/div>\n      <\/div>\n    <\/div>\n    <!-- \/\/ item -->\n  <\/div>\n\n\n  <div class=\"accordion\" >\n    <!-- item -->\n    <div class=\"accordion-item\">\n      <span class=\"accordion-header\" id=\"panel-The-Funeral-Chapel-of-Monseigneur-de-Laval\">\n        <button class=\"accordion-button collapsed\" type=\"button\" data-bs-toggle=\"collapse\" data-bs-target=\"#The-Funeral-Chapel-of-Monseigneur-de-Laval\" aria-expanded=\"false\" aria-controls=\"panel-The-Funeral-Chapel-of-Monseigneur-de-Laval\">\n          <span>The Funeral Chapel of Monseigneur de Laval<\/span>\n        <\/button>\n      <\/span>\n      <div id=\"The-Funeral-Chapel-of-Monseigneur-de-Laval\" class=\"accordion-collapse  collapse\" aria-labelledby=\"panel-The-Funeral-Chapel-of-Monseigneur-de-Laval\">\n        <div class=\"accordion-body\">\n          <p>Dedicated to Mgr de Laval, founder of the S\u00e9minaire de Qu\u00e9bec and Qu\u00e9bec\u2019s first bishop, a funeral chapel was attached to the exterior of the Chapelle in 1950. <\/p>\n<p>This roundhouse, topped with a cupola entirely covered in gold leaves, houses a majestic recumbent effigy that used to serve as the great man\u2019s tomb. Pope John Paul II paid his respects here when he came to Qu\u00e9bec in 1984.
